SAXCO
INTERNATIONAL, LLC. HELPS LOUISVILLE DISTILLING COMPANY TO CREATE A
DISTINCTIVE PACKAGE DESIGN FOR LAUNCH OF ITS NEW SUPER-PREMIUM ANGEL'S
ENVY BOURBON BY MASTER DISTILLER LINCOLN HENDERSON
Louisville Distilling Company, of Louisville,
KY, is introducing its new Angels Envy, a small batch
super-premium bourbon of uncompromising character and quality, in select United States
markets.
To help develop a sophisticated package identity for the brand that
would stand out among the highly ornate premium bourbon packages currently
on the market, it engaged the services and global resources of
Saxco International, LLC, of
Horsham,
PA, world-wide packaging specialists for the wine and spirits industry.
Our responsibility was to help create a very different and unique look
which was commensurate with the quality and character of this new artisan
super-premium spirit, states Jimmy Owens, new product representative for
Saxco International. The package for Angels Envy evolved through
many generations and was more than a year in development.
Working with the Louisville Distillings design group of Crispin,
Porter, Bogusky, of
Colorado, Saxco sourced and supplied a private mold 750 ml perfume-grade flint
bottle with a unique rounded shape, short neck and heavy base from Vetri
Speciali in Italy, one of its reliable quality vendors in its vast global network. The
bottles front and back applied ceramic labeling with see-through iconic
angels wings was completed by Seragraphie, of
Montreal, Canada, another trusted Saxco resource. It
took four different renderings to specifically match the brown ink of the
distillerys business cards with the bottles graphics, Owens
explains.
In addition, Saxco turned to its long-time closure specialist, J.C
Ribeiro of
Mozelos,
Portugal
to manufacture a beautiful stained mahogany wood top natural cork stopper
which bears the batch #10/10 and angels wings on the cork. The packaging
specialty company also sourced and supplied the white shipping cartons with
brown imprinting from Smurfit-Stone in
Burlington
Ontario, Canada. The bottles design is partly inspired by early 20th
century whiskey bottles found in the Louisville
area, relates Samira Seiller, executive vice president & director of
marketing, Angels Envy. The bottle is hand-filled, corked and crated in
Louisville.
Angels Envy small batch artisan bourbon is the culmination of
Master Distiller Lincoln Hendersons storied career. One of the original
pioneers of the premium bourbon and whiskey categories in the United States,
Lincoln came out of retirement to create the worlds finest bourbon on his
own terms - with a simple desire to enjoy the art of making whiskey. The
Master Distiller, who many have called a living legend, brings with him more
than 40 years of experience, having worked on world class brands, such as
Woodford Reserve and Jack Daniels.
The Louisville Distilling Company gave
Lincoln
creative freedom to create his bourbon, his own way. He chose to return to
the original way of producing whiskey - making decisions based on the
specific taste profile he wants to achieve. He used locally sourced non-GMO
grains,
Kentucky
limestone water and hand-chosen port barrels shipped directly from
Portugal
.
Building on his experience at Woodford Reserve, Lincoln is working
with our bourbon, guiding its qualities instead of forcing it as many other
distilleries do, said Marc Bushala, president & CEO, Angels Envy.
Its never been done before. And at this stage of his craft, hes the
only man alive who can pull it off.
Each batch - or Expression, as
Lincoln
calls it - will be guided by his hand and allowed to develop naturally,
creating nuances in the bourbon from year to year. This years release is
Expression 10/10, which possesses a warm spirit, lacking any hint of
edginess with ephemeral hints of port wine and a rich amber hue. The
Expression is distilled for an unparalleled smoothness, aged 4-6 years in
new charred white oak barrels and finished in port barrels for an
incremental 5-7 months. The final result is an exceptionally smooth nuanced
and refined bourbon.
Angels Envy is a lot of things, notes
Henderson
. Its my lifes work. Its a whiskey of incomparable smoothness.
It takes into account more than 200 years of bourbon heritage. And its
something Im going to let develop each year so every batch will be a
natural expression of the distillers craft.
As far as the name, its well accepted in bourbon circles that each
distiller owes a percentage of the bourbon in their barrels to the
angels--known as the Angels Share. But
Lincoln
sat the angels down and got them to agree that they could take a larger
share if they agreed to leave behind something better in the barrel.
The result is Angel's Envy.
Angels Envy is being rolled out in several
U.S.
markets including
Louisville,
Chicago,
San Francisco,
Miami,
Austin,
Washington, D.C. and Boulder/Denver. Angels Envy is 43.3% alcohol by volume and is
86.6 proof. The suggested retail price for a 750 ml size, which may vary by
market, is $44.99.
