SAXCO INTERNATIONAL HELPS CREATE PACKAGING IMPACT BY ASSISTING WITH NEW INNOVATIVE DESIGN FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF LUCKY DOG VODKA

Lucky Dog Vodka, Inc., of Nantucket, Massachusetts, a new company in the spirits marketplace, is launching Lucky Dog Vodka, Born in Nantucket and raised in the Rocky Mountains, this August (2011).  Lucky Dog Vodka, Inc. is located on the eastern end of Nantucket, one of Americas most sought after summer vacation destinations.  The premium spirit to be launched on Nantucket will be followed by introductions in major East Coast markets.

To create a greater impact for its all important packaging design, Lucky Dog called upon Saxco International, LLC, of Horsham, PA, world-wide packaging specialists for the wine and spirits industry, for its experience, expertise and global resources. According to Jimmy Owens, new product representative for Saxco, Our role was to help create a distinctive new package which featured a totally engaging eye appeal with a bold shelf presence. We were able to accomplish this by bringing together a cordon of reliable resources, while simultaneously creating a realistic time line and meeting budget parameters, says Owens.

To get the packaging project underway, Saxco sourced and supplied a super flint 750 ML bottle with rounded shoulders, medium neck and thick flat bottom from Piramal Glass in Marlton, NJ, one of its many vendors in its global resource network. It then identified Innovative Labeling Solutions, of Hamilton, OH, to create the attractive front and back blue and red pressure-sensitive labels for the bottles. Signature Label, of Vandalia, IL, another time-tested Saxco vendor, was brought into the mix to apply the labels and to repackage the 12 pack shipping cartons into six-packs. International Paper, of Lexington, KY produced the white shipping cartons imprinted with decorative red and blue graphics, as well as the six bottle corrugated separations.

The bottle was finished off with a synthetic cork from Gultig, an overseas Saxco supplier in Germany.  The cork was over-fitted with a perforated dark blue PVC sleeve embossed with a red dog paw on top and a screened dark blue paw on the side with red LDV lettering imprinted underneath.  Saxco called upon Maverick in Ukiah, CA to fulfill that portion of the project.

According to Greg Nichols, president and founder of Lucky Dog Vodka, Lucky Dog Vodka is a premium vodka distilled from Idaho winter wheat and blended with water from a Rocky Mountains aquifer.  Lucky Dog Vodka was awarded the gold medal at the 2011 New York Wine and Spirits Competition held at the Jacob Javitz Center in Manhattan in late July of 2011.

Nichols relates that Lucky Dog Vodka is targeting the college graduate to the thirty-year-old plus market who are youthful and celebratory spirits drinkers. Our philosophy is, Better to be fun than to be cool', he said.
