SAXCO International Helps Todhunter International
with Redesign of Cruzan Premium Rums

To separate and spotlight its Cruzan premium rums, Todhunter International of West Palm Beach, Fla., undertook a total redesign of its packaging to align more closely with the product's overall brand identification. To help complete this all-important repackaging project for its premium light, dark and tropical rums, it enlisted the services of Saxco International Inc. of Horsham, Pa., world-wide packaging specialists for the wine and spirits industry.

Saxco sourced and provided private molded 750mL, 1 liter and 1.75 liter flint glass bottles for the light and dark rums and supplied a frosted version in the same sizes for the four Cruzan tropical rums. The bottles were supplied through Consumers Glass in Montreal, Canada, while the acid-etched frosting was accomplished through Serigraphie-Richford, also of Montreal.

"The premium light and dark rums, bottled in St.Croix, Virgin Islands, are part of the distiller's elite Estate Collection, while the premium Cruzan tropical rums, bottled in Auburndale, Fla., are featured in coconut, banana, pineapple and orange flavors," according to Tom Valdes, president of Todhunter Imports, a division of Todhunter International.

"Our new proprietary bottles not only further augment our brand identification, but they also focus on the aging aspects of our rums," Valdes states. "We are excited and enthused about our new brand identification and packaging redesign."

The bottles also prominently display an attractive Cruzan cartouche on their shoulders, as well as an etching of a sailing schooner.

"We are extremely pleased with our role in this challenging project," says Herbert L. Sachs, president of Saxco International. "We are very proud of the fact that we have contributed significantly to the overall success of the Cruzan repackaging." Saxco's role took some eight months to complete.

The new Cruzan premium rums are being rolled out in major markets throughout the United States.
