Saxco International Helps David Sherman
Corporation Create Innovative Package Design
For New Ezra B Premium Bourbon
To help provide the impact needed to showcase its new Ezra B Premium
Bourbon as being totally top shelf, David Sherman Corporation of St.
Louis, Mo., knew the product�s introduction would require an innovative
and attractive package design commensurate with its upscale quality.
The company brought in Saxco International Inc. of Horsham, Pa.,
world-wide packaging specialists for the wine and spirits industry, to
help with the new, challenging packaging aspect for the 15-year-old,
99-proof, single-barrel premium bourbon.
According to Meg Syberg, director of marketing for David Sherman
Corporation, "We involved Saxco early on because we felt that we
required their expertise to select an appropriate bottle for the
outset." Saxco recommended and supplied a 750ml flint glass,
mallet-shaped bottle with a bulb neck. The glass was sourced from Saver
Glass, a long-time Saxco supplier located in France.
In addition, Saxco provided a black plastic top cork stopper through
J.C. Ribeiro, its supplier in Portugal.
Syberg says the Ezra B Bourbon was extension to its popular Ezra Brooks
product line, which her firm owns and distributes internationally. Syberg�s
department also played a significant role in developing additional
elements of the packaging project.
Working with the in-house designers of St. Louis Litho, she created the
bottle�s gold hot-stamped paper label which was further
enhanced
with a maroon-colored medallion attached to a maroon, blue and gold
ribbon. The medallion and ribbon assembly were slipped over the bottle�s
neck and fastened to the label. The medallion and ribbon were supplied by
Stoffel Seals of Nyack, N.Y. The bottle was finished off by hand, dipping
the neck into a deep cobalt blue wax.
"It was really very gratifying to see this year-long project come
together so well," states Syberg. "We were extremely pleased with how
all of the essential elements fit together."
Syberg says that the Ezra B Premium Bourbon will be distributed in the top
markets of the Ezra Brooks line before being rolled out nationally and overseas.
