Saxco International Inc. of Horsham , Pa. , worldwide packaging specialists for the wine and spirits industry, has teamed up with Buffalo Trace Distillery to provide a distinctive packaging solution for its Experimental Collection of Bourbons.

According to Kris Comstock, bourbon brand manager for the Franklin County, Ky., distiller, �This special collection of aged whiskeys is part of an ongoing research and development program to discover the perfect bourbon in quality and taste.  These whiskeys have been aged for different time periods, in different warehouses, using different recipes, different woods, toasts, chars, etc.  Each variable will inevitably affect the taste of the product and we hope to discover which combination gives our whiskey the best taste possible.�

In order for Buffalo Trace to make these unique, single barrel, limited edition, experimental bourbons available for customer scrutiny and enjoyment, it called upon the global resources and services of Saxco International to assist with the packaging.  Saxco sourced and supplied an apothecary-styled short neck 375-mL flint bottle from long-time vendor Saverglass in France .  �We opted for a 375-mL size so there would be more bottles available from each barrel,� explains Comstock.

In addition, Saxco provided a high-quality, green wood top cork stopper from J.C. Ribeiro of Portugal , another in their extensive worldwide vendor network.  Buffalo Trace is utilizing its own pressure-sensitive label which contains some 21 handwritten pieces of information about the specifics of each single barrel bottling.  Each label is being affixed individually by hand.

�It�s always challenging to work on a special project such as this,� states Bruce Varon, regional sales representative for Saxco International.  �We are very pleased with how this all came together for Buffalo Trace.�

"In addition,� Comstock states, �we�re planning to package these different experimental barrels as they reach aging maturity.  Meanwhile, we will continue with our research and development program to uncover the ultimate bourbon.�
